COS partners with Brightfind to implement Sitecore in just three months.

When information can’t be found on the Center for Offshore Safety’s (COS) website, it’s not just inconvenient. It’s potentially dangerous.
COS represents US offshore oil and natural gas companies that are dedicated to protecting the Outer Continental Shelf. The oil industry depends on COS for safety and best practices. The federal government relies on COS for data analysis. Plus COS accredits Audit Service Providers, which reassures members that they are choosing a safe auditing partner. In other words, COS is instrumental in helping to prevent oil spills, halt oil spills, and respond to spills with the most effective mitigation measures possible.
COS was referred to Brightfind by another client. In the beginning, COS team members expressed frustrations with their existing website that Brightfind has heard before. It’s impossible to find information. It looks dated. It doesn’t showcase the value we provide to our industry. Brightfind knew we could deliver a digital experience to both eliminate these concerns and help COS meet its strategic goals. Then COS threw in a small caveat—the website had to go live on the Sitecore platform in three months. Yikes.
COS and Brightfind immediately developed an unstoppable partnership. Both teams rallied around the goal of getting the site launched within the aggressive timeline. Cross-functional teams worked in cohesion with constant open communication. They stayed on schedule while refusing to compromise quality or lose sight of the website’s strategic goals.
COS’s project lead Jessica Moak, Senior Associate, GIS Communications & Marketing explained, Our short timeline required both sides to be communicative, flexible, and responsive. The Brightfind team was able to be all of those things.
COS has strict standards, protocols, and code guidelines for its content management system, Sitecore. Brightfind’s certified Sitecore developers stepped in to augment COS’s staff to ensure the new website was built to spec. Code reviews of the COS’s other sites enabled Brightfind to follow the exact implementation strategies.
In tandem with development efforts, the COS team streamlined content and got rid of old information that was clogging up the site. When editors began to feel overwhelmed with content entry, Brightfind came up with a plan. Placeholders were set up for each page required to go live at launch. This allowed COS staff to quickly swap out Greek text for polished content and compelling calls-to-action. Brightfind also held content entry working sessions with staff to help them become self-sufficient while simultaneously creating go-live ready content.
Exactly three months after Brightfind and COS’s project teams came together www.centerforoffshoresafety.org went live. Safety guidelines and reports are now easily accessible. Approved audit providers are now findable. Plus, new layouts, colors, imagery, and fonts give the website the wow-factor COS was seeking. The updated content compels web visitors to dig in to learn more. Perhaps most importantly, the cleanliness and streamlined structure allows COS to ensure safety is at the forefront of the industry.
Jessica said, The user experience has been drastically improved, thus improving our ability to communicate our message. The site is easy to navigate, straightforward, and simplified, allowing users to access information with ease. The COS message is communicated with a less is more approach, with a design that complements the copy, to tell our story more effectively.
