We're proud to announce the website launch for Bajja Initiative for Community Empowerment (BICE). This newly redesigned website was a pro bono project for a truly incredible organization, and we are honored to take part in their mission.
Below is a post from Mark Walenta, a volunteer at BICE:
--------
"BICE is an organization that works with student-teachers and underprivileged children in village areas of Uganda. Most children live near the school, and some are orphans, others afflicted with HIV, others both. The student-teachers are further afield, often near the Tanzanian border or in districts spread around the Kalungu District. The ideas of the project are that “Quality branches will yield,” or that a quality education helps both individuals and a country in the long term.
BICE is always in dire need of outside influences. The education system in the country is questionable at best, and advice, professionalism, and leadership is always welcome. The site was needed to help the Executive Director, Betty Mutebi, reach out to potential volunteers from a wide range of professions, including education, farming, nursing, marketing, or overall leadership. With a new website, the hope is that eventually there will be at least one volunteer on site at all times, helping the organization grow in both the figurative and literal senses.
The goals of the redesign were simple: we needed a modern website that appealed to an audience that may not otherwise believe in the organization. It is clear that thousands of young people from across the globe are ready and willing to help an organization such as BICE, however the vast majority of those find it difficult to make the step of actually moving to a place like Uganda. Whether it be nerves, or disbelief in the organization as an effective means of difference or even in the organization as a real entity, or any other reason, we needed to convey to these young people that in fact this organization is real and does make a difference.
Here is our new homepage:
Working with Brightfind was a real treat. They were always giving us updates and the website proposals were incredible. We could not have asked for more, and they treated us with the same level of respect and professionalism that might be expected if they were working for a large corporation, rather than a third world non-profit, community based organization. It was a thrill, and I am proud to have been able to experience this project.
I would like to personally thank Emily Witt, her co-workers and supervisors, as well as the technical staff of Brightfind, for all their hard work, dedication, and understanding of our own shortcomings during this process. Thank you all."
